ESports makes move to NJCAAe
WELLS, Maine — York County Community College (YCCC) is thrilled to announce that its varsity Esports program will officially transition to the National Junior College Athletic Association Esports (NJCAAe) league, beginning in the upcoming 2026-2027 academic year.
This strategic move marks a major milestone for YCCC Hawks Esports, positioning the college to compete on a highly recognized national stage and will provide YCCC student-athletes with enhanced competitive opportunities, structured seasonal play, and access to a robust national network of collegiate esports programs.
"We are incredibly excited to take our Esports program to the next level by joining the NJCAAe," said Aiden Deshaies, Esports Head Coach. "This transition isn't just about competing at a higher level, it’s about giving our players a premier collegiate experience, structured support, and the chance to showcase their skills against the best talent in the nation. The future of Hawks Esports is bright."
The NJCAAe hosts thousands of student-athletes across a wide array of popular competitive titles. By aligning with the NJCAAe, YCCC plans to field competitive teams in titles such as Marvel Rivals, Madden, & Smash Bro’s providing options for a diverse range of student gamers.
In addition to heightened competition, the move reinforces YCCC’s commitment to fostering community, academic accountability, and career-readiness through gaming. Like traditional collegiate sports, NJCAAe student-athletes must maintain academic eligibility, ensuring that classroom success remains the top priority.
Recruitment for the 2026-2027 YCCC Hawks Esports roster is currently underway. Current and incoming YCCC students of all skill levels who are interested in competing, broadcasting, or supporting the team behind the scenes are encouraged to get involved.
