Hawks Continue Setting Records in Indoor Track
The track & field teams had a big day on Saturday, January 31, at the USM Open II, putting together a strong overall performance and setting several new school records in the process.
On the men’s side, Landin Napolitano had himself a day. He broke the school record in the 200 meters with a time of 23.57 and followed that up by setting another record in the 400 meters, finishing in 52.95. His versatility and competitiveness showed all day and set the tone for the group.
Gavin Sampson continued his strong early season by setting the school record in the 800 meters, running 2:08.39. In the field events, Gavin Nicholson cleared 1.65 meters in the high jump to establish a new program record.
The men closed out the meet in style with a school-record performance in the 4x400 relay. The team of Gedeao Buanza, Xavier Pineau, Gavin Sampson, and Landin Napolitano ran 3:54.64, showing great effort and teamwork to finish the day.
The women were just as impressive. Tiffany Souliere set the school record in the 55-meter dash, clocking 8.32, and Ryenn Bakker added another record by throwing 9.55 meters in the shot put.
Head Coach Cam Meserve was pleased with the team’s approach and the energy they continue to bring every day.
“Our staff has loved the energy our team has brought from day one,” Meserve said. “The positivity has been incredible in training and in competition. Shoutout to the team for showing up every day, trusting the process, and bringing the energy.”
With the season still early, the Hawks are already seeing their work pay off. Saturday was a great step forward and a sign of what this group can continue to build as the year goes on.
