Men Place 5th, Women Score well
Both the York County Hawks Men’s and Women’s Track teams saw success at their first indoor track and field competition of the season at the University of Southern Maine on Saturday, January 7th.
Both the York County Hawks Men’s and Women’s Track teams saw success at their first indoor track and field competition of the season at the University of Southern Maine on Saturday, January 7th.
The men’s team ended the day placing 5th out of 9 teams competing. Treshaun Brown set the tone with first place finishes in both the triple jump and the long jump. In the long jump he finished with 6.73 meters and reached 13.40 meters in the triple jump.
Michael Crosby had a 5th place qualifying time of 8.96 in the 55-meter hurdles to make it to the event final. He also posted a time of 57.35 in the 400-meter dash, good for another 5th place and rounded out his individual events competing in the 200-meter dash.
Vinnie Giannetti placed 3rd in the 400-meter dash finishing with a time of 54.73 following that up with a 6th place finish in the 200-meter dash as well.
Coley Hatt competed well in the shot put, while Thomas Saiauski and Josh Price both competed in the 55 meter and the 200-hundred-meter dash.
To wrap up the day on the men’s side the 400-meter relay team of Giannetti, Crosby, Brown, and Saiauski garnered a third-place finish with a time of 1:41.91.
The women brought Izzy Gray and Amy Stanek to USM. Izzy competed in the weight throw and shot put. Izzy placed 19th out of 31 competitors in the shot put with a distance of 8.56 meters.
Amy Stanek competed in the one mile and the 3000-meter races. She placed 4th in the 3000-meter with a time of 12:53.57.
Both teams will be back in action on January 22 at UMaine.
