Hawks Win Major Honors
Three awarded by the Yankee Small College Conference
The YCCC Track & Field teams had tremendous success at the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Invitational. On April 29th the men’s and women’s track teams traveled to Springfield, MA to compete in the invitational. The YSCC Conference Championship was held in conjunction with the USCAA track & field meet.
Two athletes from York County medaled for the USCAA meet in their respective races. Amy Stanek came in third in the 5000-meter run crossing the finish line with a time of 21:14.22. Michael Crosby medaled in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.18, which was good enough for third as well.
Not only did the Hawks show well on the national stage but racked up some event wins in the conference. As a team, both the men and the women finished as the YSCC Runners Up. Amy Stanek added to her running recognition, being crowned the YSCC Track Champion in the 800-meter, 1500-meter and the 5000-meter. In addition, Amy set school records in both the 1500-meter and the 5000-meter.
On the men’s team Brendan Mather and Jack Kaszubinski were named YSCC Track Champions in their respective events. Brendan won the 800-meter run and the 1500-meter run. Jack became the conference champion in the 3000-meter steeplechase.
The piece de resistance came in the form of YSCC Athlete of the Year recognition. Amy Stanek was awarded the Yankee Small College Conference Female Track Athlete of the Year, Vinnie Giannetti was named the Yankee Small College Conference Male Track Athlete of the Year, and Izze Gray received the Yankee Small College Conference Female Field Athlete of the Year. We are proud of all the accomplishments of both teams.
