The men’s and women’s track & field teams concluded their indoor seasons at the Track at New Balance in Boston, MA. Many of the indoor records were broken by both teams throughout the 2022-23 season.
On January 7th, the men’s team finished 5th out of 9 teams in the first competition of the season at the University of Southern Maine.
As a sophomore, Treshaun Brown won both the triple jump and the long jump. Freshman, Michael Crosby, placed 5th in both the 55-meter hurdles and 400-meter dash in the finals to make it to the finals. Vinnie Giannetti, also a freshman, placed 3rd in the 400-meter dash, 6th in the 200-meter dash, and ran a record-setting time of 54.20 in the 400m. Additionally, Giannetti, Crosby, Brown, and Saiauski finished third in the men's 400-meter relay.
As a result of this day's competition, four school records were broken. Treshaun Brown sprinted 6.86 in the 55 meters, Vinnie Giannetti sprinted 24.04 in the 200 meters, Michael Crosby sprinted 8.96 in the 55m hurdles, and the 4 x 200 relay team finished in 1:41.91 in the 4 x 200.
It wasn't long before additional school records for both men’s and women’s teams were shattered as both teams progressed through competitions.
The women's team made a strong showing at the University of Southern Maine Invitational with Freshman Amy Stanek placing 4th in the 3000-meter run and Freshman Izze Gray placing 19th out of 31 competitors in the shot put.
During the Panther Invitational at Plymouth State on January 21st, 2023, five more school records were broken. Treshaun Brown set records in the 60 meters with a time of 7.35, long jump with a distance of 6.87m, and triple jump with a distance of 12.97m. Two other records were set by Brendan Mather. In the 800-meter run, Mather finished with a time of 2:18:43, and the mile with a time of 5:13.95.
The women's track & field team also set three school records on January 28th, 2023, at the USM Husky Invitational being held at the University of Southern Maine. In addition to setting the school record in the mile event with a time of 6:06.60, Amy Stanek set the school record in the 3000 meters with a time of 12:11.02. In the shot put, Izze Gray threw for 9.35m to set the first record of the day.
The season was then capped off by two more record-setting performances on February 11, 2023. Izze Gray set a school record in weight throw at New Balance with a distance of 9.37m, while Michael Crosby set a record in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.94.
It is an understatement to say that our indoor track & field seasons were successful. However, it doesn't end there. The first meet of the outdoor track & field season begins on Friday, March 31st at Southern New Hampshire University. Following that, the season continues with meets at Fitchburg State on April 8th, St. Joe's on April 15th, and the YSCC and National Championships on April 29th. Join us in cheering on our Hawks!
We are so excited to kick off the outdoor season and can’t wait to see all the success our Hawks are going to have once again.
