Busy Week Ahead for the Hawks
The Wind-up
The YCCC baseball team took on the top two teams in the conference last week. The Hawks met SMCC, the 23-24 YSCC Tournament Champions on Wednesday. With nine conference tournament championships under their belt, the Hawks knew it would be a tough game.
The Seawolves drew first blood in the top of the second, scoring one run, which the Hawks answered in the bottom of the 3rd. YCCC bats went a little cold until the bottom of the 7th where they put up one run in the 7th, 8th and 9th innings. Unfortunately, SMCC flexed the muscles, ultimately winning the game 7-4.
Maksim Masse had the mound to start the game, pitching through 6 innings. The Hawks had 6 players reach base on hits and Caden Fontaine was able to score two runs. Once again, offensive pressure produced 8 stolen bases with A.J. Thibodeau, Caden Petit, and Danny Williams logging 2 apiece.
A double header with CMCC was next on the docket. The Hawks struggled to get any traction with their bats but did score one run in the 7th. However, the squad was stingy on defense allowing just 3 runs. The nightcap of the double header saw the week catch up with YCCC, allowing CMCC a 9-0 win.
Zach Robinson commented “I like how the team competed against the top teams in the conference. Now we know where the bar is and can focus on building further success.”
Both golf and cross country were idle however the week ahead will be a busy one for all the YCCC teams.
