Hawks Baseball Makes History
Weekend Wrap-up – September 18, 2023
Both Golf and Baseball were in action last week.
The YCCC golf team played two matches last week. A 9-hole match at Purpoodocek Country Club hosted by SMCC on Thursday, September 14th and 18 holes on Saturday at the Meadows Golf Course hosted by UMaine-Augusta. Both days proved to be quite challenging for the Hawks. Team scoring leader Aiden Rothstein continues to lead the way, with two-sport athlete Amy Stanek just behind. The Hawks will be back in action on Saturday, September 23rd at CMCC’s home golf course.
YCCC Baseball recorded the first two wins in program history on Saturday, September 18th against NHTI on their Homecoming. The first game of the doubleheader resulted in a 12-8 victory over the Lynx. Maksim Masse pitched 5 innings, with relievers Brady Doherty and Ronin Tachibana coming in as relief. The bats were hot with 14 hits which includes 10 RBI’s. Emerson Brown and Caden Petit each reached base three times, with Jaylen McGuire producing three RBI’s.
The second game of the double-header the Hawks turned up the heat finishing the game with an 11-5 win. The Hawks continued to hit well, with the pressure offense gameplan producing 15 hits. Caden Petit again lead the way with 3 hits and 4 RBI’s. On the mound first year Hawks Anthony Barberi and Brady Doherty demonstrated balance throughout the game. Brady Doherty gave up just one run throwing in three full innings.
If there was a player of the week for fall baseball it would be captured by Caden Petit from Biddeford. In the first 3 games of the season, Caden went 7-13 (.538) at the plate. He tallied up 1 double, 1 home run and 10 RBI’s. Caden was behind the plate for all 3 games, throwing out 7 of 10 steal attempts.
The baseball Hawks are back in action at home on September 20th against Southern Maine Community College. The game will start at 3:30 pm at Goodall Park in Sanford ME
