Hawks Defeat Hampshire
AMHERST, Massachusetts - The York County Community College (YCCC) Men's Soccer team hit the road on Thursday, October 10, to take on Hampshire College.
The Hawks were able to snap a three game losing streak, defeating Hampshire College by a final score of 5-0. This was the team's third away game in a row, having some recent long road trips at Paul Smiths and Albany College of Pharmacy. The Hawks finished the road swing in style, finishing things off with this 5-0 victory.
Jesse Hyzer got things started for the Hawks early in this contest, scoring just over two minutes into the game on an assist from James Melino. This same duo was also able to find the back of the net again at the end of the first half of play, when Melino set up Hyzer for his second goal of the game. Kevine Paulino did the rest of the scoring for the Hawks, recording his first career collegiate hat trick. George Mbungu and Tyler LeBeuf each had an assist, and Paulino recorded his third, and the team's fifth goal of the game by way of a penalty kick.
The Hawks defense remained tough all game long, and goalkeeper, Ryen Royce, was able to record his second career collegiate shutout.
Here is what Coach Chris Melino had to say about his team:
"After a week of three long away trips, it was nice to finish up the road trip with a strong performance. With some adjustments to our formation, we were able to execute on the attacking and counter attacking strategies that we have been implementing. After some early season injuries, the team is starting to get healthy and is playing very well together as a unit. We look forward to building on this momentum as we enter the final stretch of the season at home."
The Hawks still have three games remaining. All of which will be played as home games at Alumni Stadium in Sanford, ME. The Hawks next competition will be held on Saturday, October 19th when the Lynx of NHTI come to town.
