Men's Soccer Drops a Hard-Fought Battle at CMCC
AUBURN, Maine - The York County Community College (YCCC) Hawks dropped a hard-fought battle against the Central Maine Community College (CMCC) Mustangs on Thursday evening, September 12.
At 10:08 in the first half of play, YCCC allowed an own goal on an unfortunate and funky situation by their net. At the 25:47 mark of the first half, CMCC's Mikel Soto found the back of the net on feeds from Jeremiah Gomez and Ivan Dominguez. The Hawk's defense was able to frustrate and contain the offensive onslaught from the Mustangs, and held them to only two goals in the first half of play.
In the second half, Igor Dominguez got things going for the Mustangs, as he scored in the 49th minute, on Gomez's second assist of the evening. Ivan Dominguez joined in on the scoring for CMCC roughly six minutes later, on Gomez's third assist of the contest. In the 79th minute of play, the Hawks were able to answer, on a beatiful play where James Melino fed a picture - perfect pass to Arthur Bahuze for the Hawk's lone goal of the game. At 84:55, the Mustangs added their final goal of the contest when Mikel Soto found the back of the net for his second goal of the game, this time on an assist from Exaucee Namwira. The Hawk's defensive core came up big, time and time again. Ryen Royce, the Hawk's Goalkeeper, made 11 quality saves throughout the contest, keeping YCCC in the game.
The game ended in a final score of 5-1, in favor of the Mustangs. However, the Hawks of York County have plenty to be proud of, even with the outcome. As a first year program, the Hawk's showed that they can compete with the top-dogs in the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC)
Coach Melino had the following to say after the game: "I was proud of how well the boys played against a very strong and well-established program. Our defensive unit and goal keeper, Ryen Royce, made key stops and impressive saves throughout the game, against a productive offensive attacking formation."
York County Community College is back in action next Thursday, September 19, as they travel up to Thomas College to take on the Terriers in a friendly competition.
