Bio

Thomas has been an amazing addition to our York County Hawks family.  Not only is he a strong academic student and a talented athlete, he is a hardworking, committed leader. Thomas is from Kittery, ME, where he recently graduated from Traip Academy.  His love for both cross country and track & field began part way through his high school career.  He started track sophomore year and cross country his junior year, specializing in events such as the 200 meter. During his senior year, he competed in his school's state championship 4x100 meter relay and finished 3rd place in the 4x400 meter relay.

When did you first start running cross country?

I started running as a freshman in high school, I felt out of touch not doing a sport and chose running as my calling. In the next three years I fell in love with sport as I continued to grow stronger as an athlete and a person through the sport.

What is your favorite thing about YCCC so far?

My favorite thing about YCCC is the small, loving atmosphere the school provides. It feels welcoming and understanding but most importantly easy to fit into because of the caring and dedicated faculty.

What is your favorite class at YCCC?

My favorite class at YCCC would have to be my culinary 106 class at the moment. I enjoy the creativity the class provides, I feel free to grow and learn with the loose boundaries of the actual class time. Apart from given the cooking style or item you have to make you get lots of chose in the flavors and textures you choose for your dish.

How have you balanced athletics with academics here at YCCC?

Balancing athletics and academics has always come pretty easily for me so it didn't take much easing into, I just make sure I stay focused on my goals and follow through on them.

Do you have any pets?

I have a very energetic cat named lightning, although she has dedicated her life to being in my way most of the time I love her very much, apart from when she steals all the space on my bed haha.

What is your favorite meal?

My favorite meal I’d say is either spaghetti or sushi. I loved the classic carbo load before a race so I got hooked on spaghetti, and sushi is just fantastic so that’s a no brainer.

Who is your hero or mentor?

For my hero it’s a little unorthodox because typically you’d hear people saying some famous athlete or person in their field but mine would have to be my boss and friend Eides Ares. Throughout high school her daughter Yolanda and I grew up together and became best friends, this made Eides feel like family to me and a sort of second mother. She taught me all I know in the culinary field and always encouraged me to push through any hardships or downfalls I had. Most of all she taught me to be a leader and to fight for the things I wanted.
